I Did No School Work Over Break, But I Dont Regret It
I Did No School Work Over Break, But I Dont Regret It The weeks between Thanksgiving break and winter break are both a blessing and a curse. After a week at home, it is normal to begin to feel restless. For me, the lack of routine set in quickly, and I grew anxious to get back to my daily schedule in Champaign. But coming back for just a few short weeks is not all like I thought it would be. Photo from Pinterest I was greeted by an hour of unpacking, two loads of laundry, and four semester projects. Not to mention the anticipation of finals, as well. I also found it incredibly hard to fall asleep Sunday night and began to miss my full-sized bed at home. Needless to say, coming back to school was a rough adjustment. Ultimately, I am the one to blame for such a stressful return, though. I slacked off during the break, knowing very well the repercussions I would face. Instead of keeping up with class reading, projects, and notes, I chose to reconnect with my friends and spend time with my family. And the truth is that I probably wouldnt do anything differently. Photo from Giphy To me, breaks from school are just that: a time to relax, unwind, and catch up. It is not, contrary to popular belief, a time to stress about tests and assignments. Why? Because thats what the school year is for. I chose my family over my schoolwork, which is a sacrifice I do not, in any way, regret. Photo by Rachel Hernandez Granted, I am not one to slack off during the school year, so catching up with my work was not impossible. Overall, the point is this: prepare for breaks by working ahead, use breaks as they should be used, and be prepared to work twice as hard upon returning to school. Rachel Class of 2020 I am studying Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Social Sciences and Literacy in the College of Education. Although I now reside in Champaign, I am originally from Vernon Hills, a Northwest suburb of Chicago.

Charles Darwin s Theory Of Evolution - 2015 Words
When Charles Darwin formulated his Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, he had adopted some assumed premises. The most important of all these premises was that all biological organisms have an innate imperative for survival, if not solely for themselves as individuals, then for their offspring, and ultimately, their species. Regardless of whether or not these biological entities are even aware of this ââ¬Å"will to live and proliferate,â⬠it is assumed to not only exist in all living things, but also to be their ultimate goal. Man, Homo sapien, a biological organism, would be expected to have the very same primary goal towards survival, yet, often times it seems man has a more important agendaââ¬â towards personal gain. Most scientists willâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦But much like the Greek fable, at the bottom of this box of maladies and nasties lies the true gift ââ¬â hope ââ¬â but it may be man s hubris and fear that, much like Pandora, slams the box shut before it can escape. This hope against sickness and disease is, of course, vaccination. Few scientific words spark as much heated debate between scientists and lay people alike as vaccination, but over the past few decades, the practice has become the source of great scrutiny. But vaccinations have been used in medicine since Edward Jenner discovered that inoculation with cowpox could provide immunity to small pox in 1796, and not only have they been used, but they have grown exponentially, with vaccines for life threatening and debilitating diseases such as rabies, tetanus, polio, and influenza becoming available for the masses, with new vaccines being developed all the time. But the past 15 years have seen many parents opt out of vaccination, deciding to expose their children to many of the dangers that medical science has pushed to the brink of extinction. Obviously, it can be assumed that it is not because these parents have some sort of desire to prevent the survival of their offspring. In fact, the reason is most likely grounded in some belief that vaccinations can harm their children. It has been known since vaccinations were first recommended and administered to children that there is a chance that they

Comparing the Hydrogen Bomb and the Atomic Bomb
A hydrogen bomb and an atomic bomb are both types of nuclear weapons, but the two devices are very different from each other. In a nutshell, an atomic bomb is a fission device, while a hydrogen bomb uses fission to power a fusion reaction. In other words, an atomic bomb can be used as a trigger for a hydrogen bomb. Take a look at the definition of each type of bomb and understand the distinction between them. Atomic Bomb An atomic bomb or A-bomb is a nuclear weapon that explodes due to the extreme energy released by nuclear fission. For this reason, this type of bomb is also known as a fission bomb. The word atomic isnt strictly accurate since its just the nucleus of the atom that is involved in fission (its protons and neutrons), rather than the entire atom or its electrons. A material capable of fission (fissile material) is given supercritical mass, while is the point at which fission occurs. This can be achieved by either compressing sub-critical material using explosives or by shooting one part of a sub-critical mass into another one. The fissile material is enriched uranium or plutonium. The energy output of the reaction can range to the equivalent of about a ton of the explosive TNT up to 500 kilotons of TNT. The bomb also releases radioactive fission fragments, which result from the heavy nuclei breaking into smaller ones. Nuclear fallout mainly consists of fission fragments. Hydrogen Bomb A hydrogen bomb or H-bomb is a type of nuclear weapon that explodes from the intense energy released by nuclear fusion. Hydrogen bombs may also be called thermonuclear weapons. The energy results from the fusion of isotopes of hydrogenââ¬âdeuterium and tritium. A hydrogen bomb relies on the energy released from a fission reaction toà heat and compress the hydrogen to trigger fusion, which can also generate additional fission reactions. In a large thermonuclear device, about half of the yield of the device comes from fission of depleted uranium. The fusion reaction doesnt really contribute to fallout, but because the reaction is triggered by fission and causes further fission, H-bombs generate at least as much fallout as atomic bombs. Hydrogen bombs can have much higher yields than atomic bombs, equivalent to megatons of TNT. The Tsar Bomba, the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated, was a hydrogen bomb with a 50 megaton yield. Comparisons Both types of nuclear weapons release vast quantities of energy from a small amount of matter and release most of their energy from fission, and produce radioactive fallout. The hydrogen bomb has a potentially higher yield and is a more complicated device to construct. Other Nuclear Devices In addition to atomic bombs and hydrogen bombs, there are other types of nuclear weapons: neutron bomb: A neutron bomb, like a hydrogen bomb, is a thermonuclear weapon. The explosion from a neutron bomb is relatively small, but a large number of neutrons are released. While living organisms are killed by this type of device, less fallout is produced and physical structures are more likely to remain intact. salted bomb: A salted bomb is a nuclear bomb surrounded by cobalt, gold, other other material such that detonation produces a large amount of long-lived radioactive fallout. This type of weapon could potentially serve as a doomsday weapon, since the fall-out could eventually gain global distribution. pure fusion bomb: Pure fusion bombs are nuclear weapons that produce a fusion reaction without the aid of a fission bomb trigger. This type of bomb would not release significant radioactive fallout. electromagnetic pulse weapon (EMP): This is a bomb intended to produce a nuclear electromagnetic pulse, which can disrupt electronic equipment. A nuclear device detonated in the atmosphere emits an electromagnetic pulse spherically. The goal of such a weapon is to damage electronics over a wide area. antimatter bomb: An antimatter bomb would release energy from the annihilation reaction that results when matter and antimatter interact. Such a device has not been produced because of the difficulty synthesizing significant quantities of antimatter.

Eudora Weltyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Ã » Back to Table of Contents Summary The story opens on a chilly December morning. An elderly AfricanâËâAmerican woman named Phoenix Jackson is making her way, slowly but surely, through the woods, tapping an umbrella on the ground in front of her as she walks. Her shoes are untied. While she taps along, she talks to the animals in the woods, telling them to keep out of her way. As the path goes up a hill, she complains about how difficult walking becomes. It becomes evident that she has made this journey many times before; she is familiar with all the twists and turns in the trail. She talks aimlessly to herself. Her eyesight is poor, and she catches her skirt in the thorns on a bush. After walking across a log to traverse a stream, she rests. She imagines a boy bringing her a slice of cake but opens her eyes to find her hand in the air, grasping nothing. The terrain becomes more difficult, and at a certain point she thinks she sees a ghost, but it is only a scarecrow. Blaming the confusion on her age and the fact that her senses is gone, she moves on. She meets a black dog with a lolling tongue. She hits the dog lightly with her cane, and the effort knocks her off balance and she falls into a ditch. The dogs owner, a white hunter, happens by and helps her out of the ditch. When he hears that she is attempting to make it into town, he says it is too far and tells her to go home. Essay on The Bloomsbury Group - 1644 Words
The Bloomsbury Group The Bloomsbury Group consisted mainly of family, colleagues, and friends who shared ideas in writing and painting. Bloomsbury signified a group of people who were close in friendship as well as in talent. The Bloomsberries, who were known as the Bloomsbury Group, spent a tremendous amount of time together. Each individual attempted to contribute valuable ideas to one anotherââ¬â¢s individual works. Two of the most important aspects of the Bloomsberries were Literature and Art. All members of this circle of intellectuals were vastly incorporated with both of these aspects as well as a few others. The most well recognized writer of this group was Virginia Woolf. For that reason the Bloomsberries rejected critics of the Victorian culture. The Bloomsberries and the Victorians have totally different style. The Bloomsberries style basically had no relation to the Victorian style. Bloomsberries made a lot of judgements. Of course Bloomsbury made judgements- very severe judgements- on human beings, on events, on art. But they delivered such judgements in a style that bore no relation to the Victorian style of pontification ( Marcus 25). The Bloomsberries on the other had a style of making assertions, just by raising their eyebrows. The Victorians had a fascination with beauty. It sprang also from the rejection of the Victorian obsession with beauty- that beauty which cascaded like treacle over every object in the home and emerged in the shape of stucco moulding, buttons, beading,â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦, and foliage ( Marcus 25-26). The Bloomsberries as a whole shared many interests with one another. The one common interest that they all shared together was that they all had a love for literature.
